Tuscany - Background Information

Getting around

You will discover not just great buildings and art treasures in Tuscany, but also fantastic scenery. This region with its delicious wines also provides unforgettable culinary experiences. The cities of Florence, Pisa and Siena with their unique buildings, squares and collections are all good bases from which to explore. The picturesque Via Chiantigiana takes you from Florence in the direction of Siena and into the Chianti region, home of many good wines, but also of creative craftsmen.
The Casentino National Park provides an unforgettable experience. The Crete Senesi, which appear in very different gray and brown hues with their bare clay hills in the autumn, have been inspiring Sienese painters for generations. In between them, historical cities throughout the region are full of interesting things for art and history lovers. You can also enjoy beaches in Tuscany. There is a lot of space for all kinds of beach holidays on the more than 200 mi (300 km) long coast from Forte dei Marmi via Viareggio and Livorno to Porto Ercole.
