The city of Frankfurt has had its own wine-producing estate since 1803. The Lohberg vineyard, located... within the city's boundaries, produces around 10,000 bottles of excellent Riesling every year. The city manages much larger vineyards in the Rheingau near Hochheim. The winery bar is right next to the Römer, and you can sample and buy the wines, which are, of course, also served on public occasions. more

Another popular shopping area is the Schweizer Straße in Sachsenhausen (latest fashions, delicatessen). Department stores, fashion shops and electronics shops are packed along the Zeil that used to have the distinction of being the shopping centre with the highest turnover in Germany. One established favourite is the Fressgass’ (more properly called the Große Bockenheimer Straße), a popular place for a stroll, with trees, fountains and benches, delicatessen shops and trendy pubs. In February of 2009, this super-shopping center was opened on Frankfurt’s biggest shopping mile, the... Zeil. On a total of eight sales floors in around 100 shops, international fashion brands, food, books and electronic entertainment are offered. This shoppers’ paradise, part of the Palais Quartier building complex, even accommodates a gym with a pool. With its unusual structure, which arose from the imagination of the Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas, the center has long since become a fixed hotspot for sightseeing tourists. Especially impressive are the roof - a glass-and-steel-construction - and the sloped outer façade. A 46-meter escalator leads directly from the ground floor to the fourth level. The food court on the top floor provides a wide culinary selection and thus is the perfect spot for a short break. more

South bank of the Main – Schaumainkai between Eiserner Steg and Holbeinsteg – and at Osthafenplatz (along Lindleystraße). Junk and bric-a-brac change hands after some haggling.
