National Museum of the American Indian
The National Museum of the American Indian, founded in 1994, is directly across from Battery Park. The historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House hosts the museum. The neoclassical building alone, planned by Cass Gilbert in 1907, is worth a visit. The facade reminds one of a Greek temple. On the inside, the floors are made of marble and paintings adorn the ceilings. The exhibition rooms are set up around a rotunda flooded with light.
