Pythonbrug

The Pythonbrug winds itself like a signal-red constrictor gone wild between the modern residential zones of Sporenburg and Borneo in the northern harbor district of Amsterdam. The 90-meter-long unique on stilts is a project of the architectural firm West 8. It was built in 2001 and won the international prize for pedestrian bridges a year later. This monster made of steel is only for pedestrians. You need good balance though if you want to cross over this curling bridge. If the wooden stairs make... you stagger, you can hold on to the railing and enjoy the panorama until you have regained your sense of balance. The view over the ultramodern buildings of the world-famous architects is overwhelming. The skin of the “Walfis” shines in the south, the northern scenery is dominated by the oval apartment blocks of the Barcelona complex, while the nostalgic houseboats bob up and down in between. more
