Museum of the Tropics (Tropenmuseum)

Why do traditional African saleswomen swap their goods instead of selling them? What do the breasts on the narrow ladder to the Javanese stilt house mean? And what gods live in a Chinese kitchen? These questions are answered at the exciting exhibition at the Tropenmuseum. Foreign tropical and sub-tropical cultures are not reduced to exotic objects. The entirety of their complex structure is explained with different media such as video, historical recordings and interactive games. The Dutch colonial... legacy from Surinam, Indonesia and the Lesser Antilles is an exciting issue. TM Junior offers a great educational service for kids between 6 and 13 years of age (in Dutch and English). Adults are only partly allowed.
