Loro Parque is an absolute highlight for families with children, even through the entrance fee is not... cheap. It was originally founded to save parrot species threatened with extinction. In addition to the largest collection of parrots in the world with a total of 300 species, there is a pinguinarium, which reproduces the natural habitat of the penguins. Some of parrots fly freely in the park grounds and consequently give it a tropical flair. Other favourites are gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers, sea lions and dolphins. Children especially love the dolphin shows, which take place every two hours alternating with sea lion performances. The parrot park has now become a veritable zoo. In addition to the feast for your eyes, there something for the palate as well, there are a number of kiosks, restaurants and ice-cream palours. An attractive alternative is the idyllically located picnic place where you can eat food you have brought along. more

This town with 6,000 inhabitants today was a blossoming commercial center on the north coast in the 16th... century thanks to its protected harbour where aristocrats and members of religious orders settled, as did politicians and the military. However, the harbour city was largely destroyed following the eruption of the volcano Montaña de Trebejo on 5 May 1706. Garachico increasingly lost influence thereafter, but many of the magnificent buildings, e.g., San Francisco Monastery, still provide living witness to the former significance of the place. The Plaza de la Libertad is a good place to start exploring, because history and the present time are linked in unique harmony there. The Iglesia Santa Ana rises at the narrow end of the square, a three-aisled basilica, and the two-storey Palacio de los Condes de la Gomera is at the wider side, the feudal manor of the Count of Gomera, who also owned large estates in the south and northwest of Tenerife. more

The small public park derived from a historic washing place, which, through a gallery in the rocks, got... enough water (883 ft³-1,766 ft³ / 25-50 m³ per hour) for the laundry of the entire neighborhood. The round about 86,000 ft² (8,000 m²) were turned into a park in 1987. Its observation terraces most likely offer the best view over the northern coast of the Acentejo. A beautiful place to relax, read and watch the world go by. Surrounded by a dense flora, freshened by natural and artificial cascades. more
