Since 2007 the museum of the Munich public transport company (MVG), which is responsible for public transport... in the city, presents about 20 historic trams and buses as well as some work vehicles in a protected building from 1918, which used to be a metal factory. The huge hall and its exhibits are quite impressive, and especially for children visiting the museum is a great experience. A highlight is the subway train simulator: you sit in a real cab and steer the train from station to station through Munich's subway tunnels that appear on a screen. You can choose from several different lines. And if you brake too late, you end up in the tunnel. You can also get into the cab of a tram and control it (with the tram standing still). And in a study pit you can look at a tram from the bottom. Very popular are the small electric model trains, which are presented in a side room. The interactive map of Munich, where you can look at the tram and subway networks from different times by entering a year, is also interesting. Thus you can see how the city has grown, from the perspective of public transportation. Free guided tours, also specifically for children, are offered on a regular basis. Those who enjoy driving comfortably in a well-designed sedan will love the BMW museum, where you can... see numerous classy cars that the company constructed in the course of over 90 years. Between 2004 and 2008 the old, flat circular building, which Karl Schwanzer, the architect of the BMW high-rise building, had built in 1974, was expanded by a building complex that holds seven "houses". In them the new exhibition, which was conceived in 2008, is now presented. In the "House of Design" for example, design processes are explained and in the treasury you get to see a selection of valuable vehicles. In the "House of the Company" milestones from the company's history are presented. The "House of the Motorcycle" shows a variety of fast machines built since 1920. The "House of Technology" imparts expert knowledge and introduces engines. The "House of Motorsports" is for speed demons. Here it's all about motorcycle and sports car racing. The "House of the Brand" gives an insight into how the advertising strategies of the company have changed over time. The "House of the Series" finally introduces individual series and their development. Not the right location for a first date, but one of the most visited museums in the city. more

The spectacular cruise ship-like building (1999) of the museum on Lake Starnberg named after Lothar-Guenther... Buchheim, was designed by the architectural firm Behnisch. The painter, writer ("The Boat", 1973) and publisher Buchheim had it built north of Bernried for his superb collection of expressionistic art. To be exact, the museum unites four collections under one roof: In addition to famous paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints of the Brücke artists Erich Heckel, Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein and other expressionists you see Bavarian folk art here, masks and ritual objects from Africa and works by Lothar-Günther Buchheim himself. This mixture of art and the beautiful location in a nature park with sculptures by the lake make this museum a special attraction. Temporary exhibitions, concerts, readings and lectures complete the program. Children and adults can also take part in interesting workshops and get creative. more
