Vast distances, open deserts, tropical rain forests and seemingly endless savannas – it is virtually impossible to describe Africa with just a few words. A description of the beautiful landscapes alone would fill volumes.

The continent between the Mediterranean Sea in the north, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea in the south and east is home to a multiethnic population of currently more than one billion people.

Thinking of Africa, pictures of beautiful, sun-drenched landscapes come to mind, and indeed, it is not least the warm climate that fascinates so many travelers about this continent. Sunbathers find ideal conditions: be it in the Mediterranean north, the tropics and the desert characterized by a subtropical, dry climate around the equator or in the steppes and savannas in the south - average temperatures in Africa hardly fall below 20 °C (68 °F).

Africa has so much more to offer than the much-visited coastal regions of Morocco, Egypt and... South Africa with their sunny beaches. Gorgeous national parks with an incredible biodiversity in Kenya, dune fields at the edge of the Sahara Desert in Morocco, Safari tours through Namibia or ship cruises on the River Nile – a trip to Africa is an adventure of a special kind. Where else on earth would it be possible to come into close contact with wild animals, to be awaken by a roaring lion or to watch flamingos flying over impressive mountain ranges? Africa is a continent of superlatives: one of the longest rivers on earth, the Nile, winds its way through Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan and Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea. Lake Victoria, located between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda is the third largest lake worldwide. Steeped in history and also worth a visit are the former British colonies of Gambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the Gold Coast at the West African coast.

However, it is not only the beautiful landscapes, the diverse flora and fauna and the historical and cultural heritage that make Africa so attractiv- the mentality and hospitality of the people who live there contribute a lot to the fact that Africa is a dream destination of poeple from all over the world. more
